Except they haven't. The laptop gpu division has been making great strides in power saving technology since the GeForce 2 times. My G210M uses less than 2W at idle clocks. My wife's 9300M GS uses about 3W. Tegra will have teething problems just like any new architecture (Barcelona anyone?) Obviously they went back and improved it for the Tegra 2. The first one was good enough for the Zune HD and Kin, despite charlie's constant power whine. So heres to hoping for more competition in the mobile space to drive innovation!

On a side not, i sincerely hope we don't get dual core smartphones, i would much rather single core, power efficient designs. I mean some of these phones cannot last a full day if you wake up really early and use your phone more then once or twice. We only need stronger GPU's from now on and PowerVRSGX540-550 as well as Armada 205-210 should be fine for a while.

"2011 is the year of dual-core super phones" It may be, but it definitely is not the year of Tegra. Qualcomm has a very solid Snapdragon line up and TI has something even more brilliant; Omap4. Oh and not to mention Marvell's higher performance ARM chips. Tegra may very well grow but most companies prefer to stick to established partners, Motorola - TI | HTC Qualcomm (and in HTC's case even the same processor) and Apple - Samsung. Nvidia's best bet is Microsoft who look like they will not be re-entering the phone market for a VERY VERY long time, if even.
