It might work in Apple's advantage to help AMD so that Intel won't become too powerful difficult to manage. One of those cases where what's best for a company is also what's best for everybody. We can hope!

AMD didn't at all deny the existence of plans for Apple Fusion products. They just (rightly) said there were no official announcements. I'm sorry for nitpicking, but this is the way statements constantly get turned against those who made them. I'm sure I'm not the only one getting tired of that.

LOL. 28nm Krishna is a 2012 zacate successor, and the 32nm fusion part (Llano) is stuck in delay hell, currently Q3 2011 and slipping. Apple must be loving the Llano experience they've (supposedly) signed up for. Trinity is a 32nm GloFo 2012 product, and don't expect it early in 2012, either.

This is just great. AMD's getting bigger and better which is just what we need, better AMD technology and cheaper INTEL chips.

What is more interesting is the fact that AMD APU's support OpenCL and Apple is already pushing OpenCL 1.0 in its Snow Leopard release. If we get a headstart hardware support, it will be a lot easier for the devs to move to computing programming and have plenty of apps supporting it. Apple fanboys don't mind... nor would I for AMD if that means them getting bigger profits. Hopefully, these bigger profits won't make them abandon the idea of progressing further and further as opposed to Intel and how they are doing things today, based on fear that they'll end up 2nd.

Unfortunately cheaper AMD hardware is more likely to up their profit margin as opposed to drive down prices. Apple have hardly shown an interest in driving down prices.

If Apple is already committed to using an AMD chip that is more than one year in the future, it could mean that Apple has already decided that this chip is going to be superior (for Apple's needs) to what Intel will be offering at that time. Or, Apple is just trying to put some pressure on Intel :-*

Apple are like Sony's VAIO line - trying to cram the best and most important bits for the tasks required. They'll never cut main features to trim down costs. They're much more likely to stick with IPS screens, SSDs, massive batteries and expensive finish/packaging materials like aluminium and glass. If the CPU/GPU is cheaper they'll spend more on something else in the machine to try and separate themselves from the rest of the market. This is what Apple has always done, they never compete tick for tock, instead they try to create new sub-markets. If you're not already a fan of the way Apple do this, or the tasks they deem important (sadly gaming will never be one of those tasks) then the news of Apple using Fusion probably shouldn't change your opinion of them.

I would still never buy Apple based on my usage needs, but I hope Apple customers will see better prices based on less expensive processors and that Apple will not simply take an even larger profit margin.

I hope this pans out as well to knock down those ridiculously high prices and reduce power consumption even more. It would be nice to get a decent right out of the box Mac that doesn't cost a fortune and is capable of playing light weight games as well a little editing while serving backup to my main machine.
