Is there anyone besides BBo320 even wasting the effort to activate 1 brain cell to think about more than the 1% enthusiast market? The AMD branded RAM is about guaranteed compatibility to their chipsets. This is designed to sell more complete platform PCs and not for individual sales. Companies want guaranteed supply and compatibility. The price comes second.

I don't see where it will cost AMD a lot of money. They are just verifying that this memory is compatible with their platforms. Also, they are probably getting some of the take from Patriot for using the Radeon brand.

Just product placement. I recall seeing RAM with some kind of 'timings optimized for Nvidia' branding a while back. I don't know if it moved any product. I don't think AMD will be fabbing the RAM, so I cannot see the point: compatibility is not w huge huge problem right now.

There is no such thing as performance DDR3. You get almost no performance increase from anything over DDR1333. http://www.anandtech.com/show/2792/10 People who pay big money for supposedly faster RAM are wasting their cash.

This was already in the pipeline within AMD even before the new CEO joined in. It was too costly for AMD to turn its back on this scenario. So for now they will continue this business. Personally I would have scrapped this regardless of cost and instead try and get companies such as Corsair and G Skill to use the AMD logo on their heat spreaders.

While intel focuses on cpu, storage and lightpeak. ( all in crazy demand) Nvidia focuses on gpu, server, and mids for mobile ( for growth) AMD is investing in memory? This seems so stupid to me. Everyday I'm loosing the little credibility this company has.
