Bell Semiconductor has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against computer chipmaker Micron Technology which claims it nicked its layering process for fabricating semiconductor devices.

Bottlenecks

The semiconductor industry's struggle to keep up with incoming orders looks set to continue as supply bottlenecks may last until the end of 2022, a member of German chipmaker Infineon's management board told the Handelsblatt newspaper.

The problem is the non-memory components.

During a recent earnings call to discuss its quarterly earnings, Micron explained that the reason DDR5 demand is "significantly exceeding supply" is because suppliers are having a rough time sourcing non-memory component.

US chipmaker Micron and Taiwanese peer UMC have withdrawn complaints against each other following a years long legal dispute over intellectual property (IP).

US memory chip maker Micron will build a new factory at its Japanese production site in Hiroshima at a cost of $7 billion.
