Overclocks to 3 GHz

Our Russian colleagues got hold of an E2140, a $75 Core 2 Duo. In Europe this baby will cost around €75 and on both continents it will work at 2x1.6 GHz. You can see the original article in Russian here.

This core is a further trimmed version of the E2xxx series, as the currently available and cheapest E4300 has 2 MB of cache while the E2140 has only 1 MB.

This still beats any Celeron around and should be fast enough for most users. The official name is Intel Pentium E2140 socket-775 boxed and as we said it works at 2x 1.60GHz, has an 800 MHz FSB – marketing talk – and 1MB shared Cache.

As Intel is ignoring us for a while, I think we will be going out to a store to buy one as soon as it's out, to show you how well this cheapo CPU works.
