To compete better against Penryn

Digitimes is reporting that AMD is looking at delaying its new desktop Phenom parts and move them onto a new process technology so they can better compete against the upcoming Intel Penryn.

If this information is correct, samples won't be available until November or December, instead of September/October according to the current plans.

This would mean that AMD won't have any Phenom parts in the retail channel until Q1 2008, which is another disaster for AMD in terms of product delays.

Let's just hope that if this delay is indeed going to occur, that the changes that AMD are planning to incorporate are worth the wait and that the performance increase that can be achieved is big enough to make a difference.
