Intel launched the first chip that packs more than two billion transistors, and this quad-core chip named Tukwila is intended for server use.
Back in 2004, Intel had 592 million transistors; in 2006, they passed the 1 billion transistor milestone and it seems that this giant is keen on doing it over and over again.
Moore's law states that number of transistors doubles every two years, and this law has on many occasions seemed improbable, but alas – now it looks as it should have been dubbed Moore's Prophecy.
