Q2 launch with Montevina

There will be two IGP chipsets for new Montevina platform and the fastest one, branded GM47, will work at 640MHz. Intel promises that the new GM47 will score twice as much as G965 in 3Dmark06.

This actually sounds a bit better than it really is, as GM965 scores around incredibly low 950 points while Nvidia’s Geforce Go 8400M with 128MB will score at least 1400 marks on a same, or very similar, machine.

The new GM47 can get you to 1800 to 2000 3Dmark points, and you can bet that mobile Geforce 9 IGP in chipset or Mobility Radeon chipset will do better.

Intel again promises DirectX 10 and whenever I see this it really makes me laugh, as Intel is probably a 3D decelerator rather than accelerator, and even its dual screen drivers suck, even in 2008 (based on personal experience F-ed.).

The new GM47 chipset supports FSB 1066 or 667, and we were surprised to see that FSB 800 is out of the equation. The chipset supports both DDR2-800 and 667MHz, as well as DDR3 at 667, 800 or 1066.

It interconnects with ICH9M and ICH9M-Enhanced Southbridge, and it will be available in Q2 after the Montevina launch.
