43% less consumption! Or is it?

These days, AMD seems to be concentrating on their new Opteron line, possibly in hopes to revitalize their server bussiness. Furthermore, these new quad-core processors' power consumption should be lower by as much as 43%.

These processors will feature integrated memory controllers and a 55 Watt ACP thermal envelope. They'll be available in 2300 and 8300 series for two-, four-, and eight-way rack and blade servers.

The prices are already posted on AMD's site, but there's a catch. Apparently, AMD uses different metrics for consumption measuring, so their numbers might not be as impressive as they'd like to make us think.

More here.
