IDF 2007: 10 times faster than USB 2.0

We are quite happy with the speed of USB 2.0 but I guess in this technology the sky is the limit. Intel's own Pat Gelsinger announced that Intel is working on making the faster USB. They even have some prototypes and the new USB will be wired or optical.

USB 2.0 can get to speeds of 480 Mbits/s while the new one will be 10 times faster. If the match turns to be good the new USB 3.0 will have a speed of 4.8 Gbit/s and converted to Megabytes we are talking about 600 MB/s transfer.

This technology is still quite far away but we can see that at least the draft is done.
