Done in 12-18 months

At this year's CeBIT, AMD said that they are slowly gaining on Intel thanks to half the time needed to switch to its new 45nm manufacturing process. Until now it has taken AMD about two years to do a transition, but this time around AMD is certain they’ll manage to do it in 12 to 18 months.

AMD’s first 45nm chips will be the Shanghai server chips and Deneb for desktop computers, which should be out in the latter half of this year, but that’s not all. AMD’s 780 series of chipsets is already being showcased at CeBIT and it will finally bring some high-end features to the integrated graphics market, something many users have been craving.

45nm will definitely make AMD more competitive and their graphics are already proving a point.
