Perpendicular magnetic recording at 250 GB

Dell has started selling 250 GB 2.5” hard drives which use perpendicular magnetic recording technology.

The single or dual 5400 rpm 250 GB drives are to be installed in the Alienware Aurora m9700 notebook and Dell’s XPS 2010 portable computer.

Adding the high-capacity drive on the Alienware model will cost an extra $300 more than the standard 80 GB hard drive. It will cost an extra $250 to add it to the XPS 2010.

A 500 GB configuration costs $500, while a RAID version is $525.
