Hard drive announced at CES 2007, has finally seen the daylight. Hitachi has started to ship, what should be as they stated, the world's first one-terabyte hard drive.

The Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive delivers superior performance and reliability and at the same time it is offers a leadership in capacity. The one TB drive is using 3.0Gb/s Serial-ATA interface combined with 32 MB data buffer, so performance should be good.

One Terabyte is accomplished by using five 200 GB platters combined with ten recording heads. It works at 7200 RPM's which should give 4.17 ms average latency. To further ensure data integrity, Hitachi used a ramp load/unload design to increase shock protection and Thermal Fly-height Control (TFC) to maintain consistent fly-height during read/write process.
