It seems like Seagate isn't happy to have to compete with every other hard drive manufacturer in the 1TB space, as the company has just announced its new 1.5TB drive, which beats the competition by a fairly sizeable 500GB.

The Barracuda 7200.11 drive manages to squeeze in its massive 1.5TB on a mere four platters, which will hopefully result in a very reliable drive. It features a sustained data rate of 120MB/s and it has a SATA II interface and comes with 32MB cache.

Seagate also announced two new 2.5in drives, the Momentus 5400.6 and the Momentus 7200.4. The slower Momentus 5400.6 spins at 5,400rpm as the model name suggests and it will be available in sizes from 120 to 500GB, all with 8MB of cache.

The faster Momentus 7200.4 drives spins at 7,200rpm and will be available in sizes from 250 to 500GB with 16MB of cache. All of the Momentus drives feature SoftSonic fluid-dynamic bearing motors and QuietStep ramp load technology.

The Barracuda 7200.11 will be available from August, but no price details were provided in press release, while the Momentus drives will launch some time in Q4.
