Although, the original Z-Drive has already been announced, it never made it to the retail/e-tail channel, but it looks like the new, redesigned Z-Drive might have more luck. If you missed it for the first time, the Z-Drive is OCZ's PCI-Express RAID based solid state drive that has impressive read and write speeds of up to 800 and 750MB/s. 

The new Z-Drive, will have two versions, the Z-Drive e84 and the p84. The first one is based on SLC NAND and accordingly it will be faster, while the p84 is based on MLC NAND chips. Both drives use a PCI-Express x8 interface, have 256MB of on-board cache and a built-in RAID controller. 

The e84 series will be available in 256GB and 512GB capacities while the MLC based p84 will come in 256, 512 and 1TB capacities. The SLC-based e84 series has a maximum read and write speeds of up to 800 and 750MB/s while the MLC based p84 are limited to 750 and 650MB/s. 

Just as every other SSD from OCZ, the new Z-Drive is also backed by a three year warranty and should hit retail pretty soon. Although, OCZ didn't officially announce the prices of these drives, Alternate.de has already listed the MLC based p84 series with prices ranging from €1,299 for the 250GB all the way to €3,899 for the 1TB version.
