Not only did HTC announce the Touch HD today, but it also launched the Touch 3G and Touch Viva, two very similar looking handsets at first look. Both are updated versions of the original Touch and as such use the TouchFLO UI on top of Windows Mobile 6.1 professional.

On the hardware side of things, both models use a 2.8-inch, 320x240 touch screen display, 802.11b/g WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP support, and HTC's ExtUSB port with USB 2.0 for PC synching and the connector also doubles up as the headset jack.

With the Touch 3G being the more expensive model of the two, thanks to it's 3G connectivity, it also has a faster processor, as it's using a Qualcomm 528MHz part, while the Touch Viva has to make do with an aging Texas Instruments OMAP processor at a mere 201MHz. Both phones have 256MB of ROM, but the Touch 3G has 192MB of RAM, compared to 128MB for the Touch Viva.

Both models support quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, while the Touch 3G adds support for the 900 and 2,100MHz 3G bands with HSDPA download speeds of up to 7.2Mbps, although it's limited to a mere 384kbps for uploads. The Touch 3G has a 3.2Megapixel camera, while the Touch Viva has to make do with a 2Megapixel version.

The Touch 3G measures 102x53.6x14.5 mm (HxWxD) and oddly enough, the Touch Viva is a smidgeon larger at 104.5x59x15.75 mm (HxWxD) and it also weighs more at 110g, compared to 96g for the Touch 3G. The Touch 3G also incorporates a GPS with a GPS support and both models have a microSD card slot for memory expansion.

According to HTC, both models should appear in early October in various markets and the Touch 3G will come in the choice of black, gold, brown and blue, while the Touch Viva will be limited to grey.
