What is being called the second generation webOS device from Palm is slated to arrive on October 20th. The Pixi is go to Sprint first, with Sprint-run stores as well as Best Buy locations likely to have it in stock on launch day.

While the Pre will continue to be available and be at the top of the webOS heap from Palm, the Pixi is definitely the dubbed down consumer edition that will be targeted more at mass marketing as it will carry a much lower price tag; but it lacks many of the features that the big brother Pre offers.

While a variety of other devices are being released that offer similar or more features at a comparable price point, the Pixi might struggle to gain attention. However, with the release of the more polished 1.2.0 firmware the webOS may, in fact, be the ticket for the Pixi to change that. It just remains to be seen if that will be enough to keep users excited about the Palm webOS platform.
