Confirmation of new model positioning

Our moles in the land of BlackBerry have confirmed what we have been suspecting to be the fact all along: the new BlackBerry 9700 model will carry the “Bold” branding, making it the BlackBerry Bold 9700. While we heard of some last minute waffling that might have led to the unit carrying another branding, we felt all along that this was unlikely due to the fact that the company was already set on using 9700 as the model number.

It seems that the excitement for the launch of the 9700 continues to build, which in some ways is a bit surprising, considering that in many ways the 9700 isn’t that much of a leap over the latest Curve models; but the fact that the 9700 has 3G support as well as Wi-Fi has a lot of Curve owners very interested in the device.

T-Mobile in the U.S. has already been getting the word out, and they are sending invites to a launch event in Los Angeles on November 3rd, or New York on November 5th. We have been hearing that some local launch events are planned for other major T-Mobile markets, as well.

We can’t tell you anything more about the launch plans for AT&T for the 9700 Bold because right now we have not been able to find out anything additional about them. According to our sources, the company seems to still be in the planning stage and has not decided if they will be doing actual events or not. The Bold 9700, while an important device for AT&T, does not seem to be as important this time around; and maybe this is because it will be T-Mobile’s first offering in the Bold product family.
