Pulls the plug on selling the 8GB 3G model

Our moles at AT&T tell us that the mother ship has pulled the plug on additional sales of the iPhone 8GB 3G because they are out of stock. Our sources tell us that AT&T isn’t very clear whether or not they will be getting any additional 8GB 3G units, but have been told for the time being to refer customers to the 16GB 3GS and 32GB 3GS models.

According to our moles, there is a belief that AT&T might not be getting any additional 8GB 3G units at all, but those remaining in the pipeline or on the shelf will be marked down to $99 to quickly move them out. While whispers from our sources seem to indicate they believe that a 3GS model will remain part of the low end of the iPhone offerings going forward, it is unclear if that will be an 8GB or 16GB unit. We suspect that this might not be official until the launch of the new iPhones in the weeks ahead.
