Sony
head, Howard Stringer, has admitted that the competing war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD is currently a stalemate.

He said that it has been a difficult fight with Toshiba as it has been selling its players for as low as US$200 heading into the holiday season, while Blu-ray players cost more than twice as much. The HD DVD camp also has the backing of Paramount Pictures.

Stringer said that Sony has been trying to win the war based on Blu-Ray's merits, but when Paramount changed sides it went badly.
