GameStop is taking a fresh approach to downloadable content on Xbox Live with the announcement that they are already pre-booking the Xbox 360 exclusive expansion pack for Grand Theft Auto IV called “The Lost and Damned.”

Those that purchase the GTA IV expansion pack from GameStop will not receive a disc, but instead get a code that will allow the download of the expansion pack from Xbox Live when Rockstar releases it on February 17th.

In addition to the download code, those that pre-order with GameStop this way will also get a two-sided poster, as well. Sources are already suggesting that GameStop is experimenting with this concept to see if it is, in fact, popular with customers and what incentives they would have to offer to get customers to purchase pre-ordered for downloadable content.

The expansion to GTA IV will require the original disc, but the story line for the expansion pack features a fresh new way to explore Liberty City with a plot that intersects with the GTA IV story line.
