Collectors edition now officially part of the plan

Another one of the most eagerly awaited titles for the Xbox 360 is the new strategy game from Ensemble Studios, Halo Wars RTS, which is, of course, based on the highly successful FPS Halo series. In addition to the standard edition of the game, Microsoft also announced that a collector’s edition will be available, as well.

As for the release dates, the U.S., Canada, Mexico and South America can expect the Halo Wars on March 3rd, 2009. Those in Europe and the Middle East will get the game a few days earlier, with their release slated for February 27th, 2009. Those in Japan and other countries in Asia will be getting Halo Wars on February 26th, 2009.

Halo Wars will be available in both the standard and collector’s editions. The Collector’s Edition of Halo Wars will include a special in-game “Honor Guard” Wraith, a graphic novel, six Leader Cards, and a “Spirit of Fire” patch. Those that opt to purchase the Collector’s Edition will also get early in-game access to the “Halo 3” Mythic Map Pack when it becomes available. Those who pre-order Halo Wars from participating retailers prior to its release will also get an exclusive in-game Warthog carrying flame decals.

The standard edition of Halo Wars will carry a retail price of $59.99, while stepping up to the Collector’s Edition of Halo Wars will jump the price up to a suggested retail price of $79.99. Both versions of Halo Wars will be rated “T” for Teen, which is a first in the Halo franchise as all previous games have been rated “M” for Mature in the past.
