Newspapers lose cash
Despite rise in advertising
Web-based newspapers saw their profits rise by 21 percent last year; however the profits are nothing compared to what they were earning in the heyday of print.
According to the Newspaper Association of America reports, this is the 14th consecutive quarter of double-digit growth on newspaper Websites. Digital revenue makes 7.1 percent of total sales, up from 5.4 percent last year.
But traditional advertising is falling fast, particularly in classified ads, help wanted, estate sales and vehicles for sale advertisements. So far, Web advertising has not moved to fill this gap, the report says.
