Former Ensemble team to develop new Halo Wars content

While the focus for the future at Robot Entertainment might be PC development, the new studio located in Plano, Texas that is being staffed by 45 former Ensemble team members has let it be known that they will return to the console to develop new content for the recently released Halo Wars.

The company has also said that they will be working on the development of some new IP as well, but they will be working with Microsoft Gaming Studios to support both the Halo Wars and Age of Empires communities. The news is good for fans of both franchises, as it would seem that with Robot’s continued support the Ensemble developed titles will continue to grow.

As we said late last week, little is known about the exact nature and strategy for the development of new content for Halo Wars (and perhaps Age of Empires, as well), but our sources tell us that more information will be forthcoming soon. As for the new IP that Robot has in development, we hear whispers that more about that will also be known soon.

The decision to close Ensemble has not been well received by many in the gaming community who were fans of the company’s previous franchises. Microsoft claimed that the closing was necessary to keep Microsoft Gaming Studios on its established growth path. With the recent buzz created by the Halo Wars demo download and early reviews, Microsoft could regret the decision to close the studio. However, the news that Robot will be picking up where Ensemble left off should satisfy gamers in the long run and the added independence could yield some excellent benefits.
