Microsoft claims that the worst is over

According to reports, Aaron Greenberg, the Director of Product Management at Microsoft, is boasting that the end of the Red Ring of Death failures has finally arrived and claims that it will soon be a thing of the past. With the release of the Jasper revision of the console Microsoft is pleased with the performance of the latest revision of the Xbox 360.

While Microsoft might be pleased with the quality of the latest build of the Xbox 360, we can tell you first-hand that while we have not seen an RRoD failure we have received some reports and had one personal experience with the DVD-ROM drive on the Jasper revision of the console failing. While Microsoft might suggest that these incidents are isolated and are obviously not as serious as the RRoD failures, they are failures nonetheless.

While Greenberg claims that the company has spent much time isolating the root cause of failures and making improvements to the console to prevent it from happening again, many gamers will never forget the nightmare that the RRoD has caused them; and the pain of the entire return and repair process remain vivid, as many have undergone this headache several times.

Microsoft can suggest that they have addressed the issues and that the latest consoles are the most reliable that they have ever produced, we have to say that we still think it is a bit early to proclaim that the Jasper revision of the Xbox 360 is the one that will last. We think that the console needs some additional time and wear and tear on it before a final verdict can be rendered; but we do think from what we have seen so far that it is an improvement over the previous versions of the Xbox 360.
