Will consider and evaluate those over the limit

The size of Xbox Live Arcade titles is a topic that seems to come up every couple of months. The size of XBLA titles has grown from 50MB to 150MB and then to a 350MB limit that was announced in May last year. It seems that Microsoft has now agreed that some of this new and exciting content needs more breathing room and they will be reviewing titles that exceed the 350MB limit on a case-by-case basis.

The reason that the size of Xbox Live Arcade titles has come into focus again is the recent release of Watchmen. Watchmen has gone far beyond 350MB with the gaming coming in at 1.2GB, which apparently did shock a number of gamers.

Microsoft has always stated that they want to keep the final sizes down for quick access and ease of access to the titles. The size limit of 350MB now seems to be more of a general guideline than a hard and fast rule. Microsoft can bend the rules when a title warrants it by offering superior gameplay or offering an experience that makes use of the extra space in a way that it makes it worthwhile.

We suspect that with the release of the 60GB hard drive in the Pro systems as well as a rumored larger hard drive beyond the current 120GB drive on the horizon, it is likely that more XBLA titles will push the size limits. To us, it is a simple case of Microsoft needing to realize that users need larger hard drives beyond 120GB due to all of the download content available.
