14-inch and 15-inch models plagued by low demand
Acer is reportedly reducing orders for its recently introduced
14 and 15-inch CULV based notebooks due to low demand. Acer is
currently selling 14 and 15-inch Timeline models, as well as a
Travelmate series 14-incher based on the same platform.
Digitimes claims Wistron is now churning out some 200,000 Acer thin and
lights a month, which is significantly under the expected 600,000
units. The report does not mention 13-inch Timeline and Travelmate
models, so there's a good chance the smaller models are selling quite a
bit better than the big ones.
This wouldn't come as much surprise, as 14 and 15-inch CULVs really
don't make that much sense. They still weigh quite a bit, and have a
sizable footprint in spite of the sub-1-inch waistline.
