Coming in July, hopefully

German
outfit Neofonie is hoping to introduce its Android flavoured 11.6-inch WePad tablet sometime in July, with volume shipments starting in August. The first listings have popped up on our price search engine and at €449 the stylish tablet looks like a rather good deal.

Unlike Apple's iPad, the WePad is based on an N450 Atom, a proper x86 processor clocked at 1.66GHz. It packs 1GB of memory and 16GB of flash storage, expandable via an SDHC slot. Sounds good, but the spec gets even better. It has a/b/g/n WiFi, Buetooth 2.1 and two USBs, which is two more than Apple's none. With an 11.6-inch 1366x768 screen it manages to put the iPad to shame. However, the impressive spec doesn't seem to have had an adverse effect on its size an weight. At 800g it's less than 10 percent heavier than an iPad, but it has two extra inches of screen acreage.

We're not saying it's an iPad killer, but it is a rather interesting and well priced product from a small company. While it might not manage to keep up with the iPad in terms of battery life or the number of available apps, the WePad is just good value, as it costs €150 less than a comparable iPad. Also, it's designed by Germans. What more could you ask for?

You can check out the product page here.

Oh, and it also supports Flash.
