Hollywood ending
After it was gutted by a court battle with Hollywood, ReplayTV has found a buyer in satellite broadcaster DirecTV.
ReplayTV was an early pioneer of DVRs and that was crushed into near oblivion years ago after a court battle with Hollywood. ReplayTV dared to sell technology which enabled users to skip over advertisements.
DirecTV has bought the ReplayTV brand and other assets from Tokyo-based D&M Holdings. It is not clear how much the company has cost. ReplayTV beat TiVo to the market by a few months, but TiVo ultimately won.
Jade Ekstedt, DirecTV, said the ReplayTV acquisition will allow it to "explore new services" and "the potential of ReplayTV's (intellectual property)" and patents.
