Vietnam add-on to get bonus map

by on06 December 2010

Operation Hastings to make unlock return

Just as DICE did with the Coral Sea map with Battlefield 1943, the upcoming Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam add-on pack will also include a fifth community unlockable map. As originally rumored, a map from the 2004 Battlefield Vietnam will be included with the Vietnam add-on for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and in fact that will be the fifth unlockable map.

The map from the original 2004 Battlefield Vietnam will be none other than the highly popular Operation Hastings. The map features a bridge that divided the two main areas of the map, with plenty of vehicles for players to use to assault the other side.

How to get the fifth map unlocked is a bit different from how Coral Sea was unlocked in 1943, which was dependent on all players working together to reach a certain number of kills. This time around, the Operation Hastings map will be unlocked when Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC players are collectively able to amass 69 million team actions.

Team actions Battlefield players pretty much already know are revive, resupply, repair and spotting actions that players do during the game to help their teammates. So, the entire focus of this challenge to get the map unlocked depends on team work. From what we hear, team actions performed in both the main game as well as the Vietnam add-on pack will count toward the total, but it will take 69 million of them to unlock Operation Hastings for play.

With the announcement of the additional fifth map, it seems that much of the whining about the Vietnam add-on pack only including four maps has subsided; and the price tag of $15 or 1,200 Microsoft Points does sound a bit more reasonable from the chatter we are hearing.

Even with the news of Operation Hastings being re-done for addition to the Vietnam add-on for Battlefield: Bad Company 2, many are already wondering if there is any chance for additional maps from the 2004 Battlefield Vietnam to make the trip over as well as additional content? From the whispers we hear, DICE isn’t ruling it out; but they have nothing to announce at this time. Sources suggest sales on the Vietnam add-on would have to be very strong for DICE to invest additional time and money in adding additional maps, but you never know.
