Radeon HD 6970 priced at $450

Written by Fuad Abazovic

EU price from €429 to €449 with VAT
We got a hint on Radeon HD 6970 pricing. Our sources are indicating that the suggested e-tail price for this product should be set around $450 in USA, while Europe will have to pay between €429 and €449, depending on the country.

As we previously announced Radeon HD 6970 will ship in volume and there should be plenty of cards available on launch day, e.g. you can call it a real hardware launch and the card looks to be significantly cheaper than Geforce GTX 580. The GTX 580 sells for some $515 to $530 depending on the brand and shipping cost and ATI looks like it will end up cheaper. This is quite good news for Radeon fans.

We still don't have any concrete information about Radeon HD 6950 EU pricing but of course it should end up close to €300 to €350 if not less. This is a simple educated guess knowing that Nvidia wants to price the GTX 570 around the $330 mark for the US market.

Of course bear in mind that the launch is still a week away and AMD might readjust its prices to counter the GTX 570, but this is the info we are hearing today.

Hmmm im dewided, a price so low comnpared to the GTX 580? Could it be a indicator of the performence? I hope not.

Ok but if AMD changes the gear in pricewar mode in fine whit it.

thats..strange. some say it will be cloked nearly at max. like 6870 ti compete with 580 leaving no room for OC. hope thats not true

Cheaper? Eh!? I know some of the 580GTX prices are out of control (Overclockers i'm looking at you) but YOYOtech have one for £382. Pricing these over £400 is madness!
Bah!
I am so tempted just to buy a 5870 so I can get some eyefintiy action going right now! Must resist.

Hope nVee-dee-u ends up with egg on its face, when cayman xt matches gtx 580 in real world games...
Oh no... another couple of 'green' cards that make 'no money' lol

Gtx 6xx series in January? lol

I'm waiting to see if 2x custom 6850's is answer to my gaming needs...

Hope Cayman makes early adopters look dumb... again :oS

"looks to be significantly cheaper than Geforce GTX 580. The GTX 580 sells for some $515 to $530 depending on the brand and shipping cost and ATI looks like it will end up cheaper."

significantly cheaper and will end up cheaper eh? Thy redundance knows no bounds!

"This is a simple educated guess knowing that Nvidia wants to price the GTX 570 around the $330 mark for the US market."

Ok, this statement has me confused. nVidia already has the 570 priced at $350. Why would they want to lower it to $330 unless AMD were to force them through price competition? Faud, did you mean to say "This is a simple educated guess knowing that AMD wants to price the 6950 around the $330 mark for the US market but had a little to much "green tea" this morning?

ok...so AMD HD 6970 will priced $450 against GTX 580 $530.i will still buy HD 6970 even it's slower 10% than GTX 580,considering the price ended 15% cheaper...and perhaps 30% cooler

yea u bet its X'mas time i dont think they will put it for 450$ or they might put it hardly for 1 week or somethin..

no shocking thing its same as i expected but Nvidia shocked little by 330$ where i expected 400$....

i will go for 580 by waiting a while till 17th...

Why do I get the feeling some of you would just love to pay more for new graphics cards? :-*

GTX 570 pricing is pretty good and I hope AMD follows suite with the 6950... The 570 and 6950 will offer much better value than the 580 or 6970 and won't need a huge PSU to run, making them a much better choice in the upgrade market.

You call $450 much cheaper than $515-$530? I don't think so, they are both overpriced and need to come down to a level of about $350 to $400. Bring us a next gen graphics card that has more than tripple the performance and we will pay for it.

At dabs the gtx 580 sells for £379.99 inc VAT.

I expect the 6970 to be around the £340 mark
