AMD Radeon HD 6970/6950 listed in France

Written by Slobodan Simic

€496 for Cayman XT
Tcmagazine.com managed to score early listing of AMD's upcoming Cayman cards and the Franch retailer/e-tailer lists these two cards at €398.22 and €496.02.

The Cayman based HD 6970 and the HD 6950 are scheduled to launch next week and it was just a matter of time before some retailer/e-tailer jumps the gun and lists these two for pre-order. The price seems a bit steep, but we are quite sure that we'll see even lower prices once the rest of the retail/e-tail crowd joins in on the fun.

The estimated availability date is also interesting as the noted retailer/e-tailer claims that the HD 6950 should be available on December 11th while the HD 6970 is scheduled for December 23rd.

You can find the screenshots of the listings here while the cards can be found listed here and here.

€496.02 for a 6970? It's 3 x what I've paid for my 6850 - but I'm sure it's not 3 x as fast.

So I better get a second 6850 then ...

But then there is microshuter sometimes that can be an issue with dual gpu setups. Anyway 6850x2 is the bast setup available in performance and price and efficiency. (if you dont mind micoshutter and lack of physx support).

Also if 6970 is as expensive as 580 then it should be faster.

You gotta be joking? right? 496eur LoooL

6970 = 2x 6850 = 2x 170eur =340eur
6870 is a singel card and it should be less cost to make it..
so 340-370eur would be the price..
398eur for 6950 LoooL more like 270-290Eur

This is quite unexpected. But i have my doubts the performance of the HD 6950 will be that good to warrant such a premium price compared to GTX 570, which is cheaper.

If they do indeed launch with this prices the performance must be better than we thought, 6950 being faster than GTX 570 and 6970 faster than GTX 580.

If they fail to outperform the competition offerings i think the community won't bother with this products, price for the moment seems unfair. To know for sure we need as always benchamrks.

15 December is still the launch date for Cayman? If so it's less than a week away, i can hardly wait. Alot of controversy is wrapped around this products, so far.Quite simillar to the 6800 series launch when people argued about the naming scheme.

I'm not sure why anyone here is taking those prices so seriously. It's just one retailer, likely trying to bank on pre-orders.

We'll see the actual price next week, I'd expect it to be 50 or so lower.

Being this close to release, you have to wonder why their arent articles with headlines like, "AMD 6900 Series Almost Ready. Sub headline: AMD Says they are back on Top.

That should worry anyone thinking the 6900 series is a true contender to the new 500 series additions.

That or AMD has the worst marketing ever!

no, normally you'd be right but with the 6 series, the 6950/70 is AMD's new high-end single chip design.
there will probably be a 6990(or something like that) which will be a dual.
but these cards have new GPU's and only use one.
