AMD readying Deccan mobile platform

Written by Fudzilla staff

Coming after Brazos
According to Digitimes, AMD is expected to start testing its next generation Fusion platform in Q1 2011.

The new platform, codenamed Deccan, is a sequel to Brazos and it will be based on the Krishna APU and Yuba FCH. Brazos on the other hand uses the Ontario APU and Hudson FCH.

It is expected that the Deccan platform should sample sometime in mid-2011 and mass production is expected towards the end of the year.

considering they have 3 completely new CPU platforms in the works set to release within the next 9 months at most I'd say its pretty much inevitable.

Ontario is a province in Canada.
(The) Deccan is a region of central India.
Hudson is a huge bay in northern Canada.
Krishna is a Hindu deity.
Yuba - I have no idea.
Brazos - I have no idea.

I'd say AMD is teasing. However the Countess makes a good point.

Perhaps AMD polls it's engineers for the names? All kinds of people work at AMD, and the company needs code names.

Well wth, the Deccan in India is a huge plateau, and one of the dominant political entities in Indian history came out of the Deccan. And we all know AMD needs to hit a new plateau!

Fudzilla staff are too lazy to explain!

APU = Accelerator Processor Unit. GPU + CPU on the same silicon. Marketed under "Fusion" brand.

For 2011...
Ontario = 9 Watt version Bobcat-based APU.
Brazos = Mobile platform (for netbook/SFF market) using Ontario processor.
Hudson = South Bridge for Brazos.

For 2012...
Krishna = Replaces Ontario. Improved cores and IGP.
Deccan = Replaces Brazos.
Yuba = Replaces Hudson.

Deccan River - India
Brazos River & Lake - Texas, USA
Krishna River - India
Yuba River & Lake - Arizona, USA
Lake Ontario - Canada
Hudson River & Lake, NY USA

Maybe the APUs are the river names and the FCHs are the lakes? But then Ontario doesn't fit unless there is an Ontario River.

Now let's get some names based on Ancient Greek Heroes and Gods please.... Would be nice to have a Zeus and Poseidon Bulldozer chip.
