3DS has best anti-piracy measures yet

Nintendo might finally be ahead of the curve
Sources we have been speaking with over the last couple of weeks have been telling us a lot about the anti-piracy technology that is a part of the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. Nintendo in the past has had serious piracy problems with their handheld systems; and despite a number of counter-measures and lawsuits to deal with the problem, they just never seemed to get the upper hand.

This time around, however, whispers we hear speak of some of the best anti-piracy technology that has ever been used in a device of this type. While Nintendo is unwilling to talk about it and those we have spoken with can’t tell us the specifics, they do seem to think that with the release of the 3DS Nintendo is finally ahead of the piracy curve; and that should have a real impact on sales, meaning there will be more of them for not only Nintendo’s titles, but those of 3rd party publishers.

One source claiming to be aware of the specifics of the new anti-piracy technology being used in the 3DS told us, “I think Nintendo got it right this time around and the anti-piracy technology being deployed with the 3DS will help protect our IP; and I think this will lead us to selling a lot more than we have in the past, which I do think will lead to more games to be developed for the 3DS platform.”

We will have to see how effective these new measures are, but we suspect that the cat and mouse game among Nintendo and the pirates will continue, but maybe not, if what our sources are telling us is true. We will have to wait and see, as certainly the aggressive enforcement by Nintendo has helped curb the situation, but not yet eliminated it.

My point would be that the best kind of anti-piracy measures are those that make piracy unnecessary, as opposed to difficult.

I'm sure it'll be cracked, I just meant that I hope the games are good and cheap enough to make piracy less interesting for potential buyers.

As long as it's not a hair sensitive cloud based system. I would hate to think the 3DS would turn into the console version of Command And Conquer 4 or Assassins Creed 2. In those cases the legit customers suffer heavily (and in the case of Spore, lead to the distribution of more cracks, even amongst legit customers).

Games should come out free, like in the case of Blacklight which is a fps thats top notch and no bugs (at least i didnt find any in the first game). New game will be free and they will sell guns to casual gamers to make a profit. Hardcore people dont need to as they will be leveling up all the time. Its a pretty good business mechanic if you ask me. Full game, no bugs, free to play and make your money on donations and micro transactions.

and what about solo games ? I dont think they can be profitable with donations only. A fair price would be a start, 50 bucks and more are just crazy compared to what most games offer. 20-30 bucks sounds fair IMO.
Oh and there arent any bugles games, just like bugles software, its just not possible. As long the bugs arent too obvious or gamebreaking its ok...

OT: Anti piracy bs just wastes money that could be used to make the product better and will never work anyway.

FYI, the games are $40, and I don't think that they can really profit as much with prices lower than that. But of course, consumers don't give a damn about that...

Well i was talking about pricing generally and indie devs sell games for 20 bucks usually...

from the 40 bucks, the devs/publisher get 20 in the worst case scenario

20*200 000 = 4mio, not that bad for a handheld game and 200k isnt a top title sales

The thing is, the BEST piracy protection ever is like saying you have TALLEST newborn baby every... might be better than the rest but still pretty short.
Besides, if they eliminate piracy all together, what excuse would they hide behind when sales don't reach their mythic-level projections?
Hell, they probably have a crack ready to release THEMSELVES just in case sales are looking down :)

The handheld games this gen are going to be more expensive to develop than last-gen ones, not to mention packaging and the licencing fees. Game sales would have to nearly triple to make as much as they do at $40 if they are sold at $20.

I expect more thumbsdowns, but the fact remains that a good business tries to make as much money as possible. Selling at half the maximum price people are willing to pay is horrible business practice.
