Sony ships 50 millionth PS3 console

Written by Fudzilla staff

Opens up the champers
Sony has announced that worldwide shipments of its PlayStation 3 consoles have reached the 50 million milestone as of March 29.

The PS3 was introduced back in November 2006 and it had a clear technological lead over the competition, which it maintains to this day.

With 75.5 million shipped units, Nintendo’s Wii is still king of the hill in terms of global shipments, but the PS3 has managed to outpace the Xbox 360, with 42.9 million units shipped to date.

Hm, let's say Sony has one month's worth of stock - with 50 million sold in as many months, it turns out they would have about a million PS3s in stock...

Since they claim to have shipped 50 million by the end of March, they have probably sold 50 million by now.

had a clear technological lead over the competition. My ass the Xbox CPU and GPU are faster. And supports wireless-N. The Xbox also does not suffer from a memory bottle neck.
The only thing ps3 has is Blue ray.

Actually PS3 CPU is faster but it got gimped by the NV card and RAM...not like it matters because all 3 consoles got trash inside.

"Sony" said that they "shipped" 50 million units, they NEVER said that they "sold" 50 million units! You live in la la land. :D

There really is only one game to look at to see why the PS3 is stronger. Uncharted II. It really is the only PS3 title to take advantage of the console the way it was meant to.

Hmmm thats why multi format releases i.e same games released for PS3 and XBOX360 always run and look better on the XBOX360! The PS3 had a great CPU but it cannot be utilsed properly even today and the GPU inside the PS3 is utter pants. This is why games on PS3 get downgraded i.e lower resolution and missing eye candy, shadows, dynamic lighting etc are all missing and simply cannot look as good as the Xbox360 counterparts..

Meh, just more Fud from Fud..

So?

You actually think they would have shipped 50 million had they not sold the first 49.x million?!

You would make one hell of a businessman - even Ben Bernanke couldn't bail you out.
