CivWorld open beta available to public

Written by

Renders Facebook useful
Sid Meier’s Civilization World entered open beta yesterday and it is now available to the public.

The Facebook game is set to launch sometime in 2011, rumour has it in September, and civ addicts are already calling in sick.

The first reviews are mixed. The game includes several innovative concepts, not seen in previous Civilization instalments. However, some punters believe the game is still to sluggish and rough around the edges, but bear in mind that it’s a beta.

In any case, CivWorld could prove to be the hottest game on Facebook, thanks to legions of civ fans who have been hooked on the game for the past two decades.

You can try it out here.

Sorry but no, as much as I enjoy Civilization it's still not enough to sell myself to Facebook.

What's next? A version for Myspace?

I like Civilization a LOT, but ... objectively, is it really more useful than Facebook?
(It's very slightly educational if you want it to be, but then so can Facebook be, if you want it to be.)
Both are just first-class time-destructors (take that, Daleks!)
