Asus releases Kinect clone for PC

Written by David Stellmack

However, the Xtion Pro will set you back $300
Asus has jumped into the motion control game with the release of their Xtion Pro, which on the surface is really nothing more than a clone of the Kinect. While the Xtion Pro will not work with your Xbox, it will work with your PC with either Windows or Linux.

The Xtion Pro Live is able to be used with the Asus, designed for use with its Wavi device, which is designed for media streaming. The device allows you to use gestures and movements to do a variety of things, but likely the big draw here will be those that want to develop other applications for the Xtion Pro.

While the Microsoft Kinect will set you back $150, the Xtion Pro will cost you a cool $300. At double the price we are just not sure that it is worth it. Of course, if you are looking to get into development, this might be a better long term solution than using the Kinect on the PC, but only time will tell if users are willing to embrace motion control for the PC.

"Asus releases Kinect clone for PC"

"Sony to follow suit soon and release it's own clone for Playstation"

Everybody hated on Kinect now everybody copies it, shame Microsoft can't stop the haters copying their design...

microsoft could sell the kinect for 150 because the knew they would sell a billion of them, a PC kinect with no support...only enthusiasts will purchase this and can more than likely afford the 300 dollar price tag. i like where asus is headed.

If Apple would have come up with kinect, i know what would have happened to ASUS.

Why do people down vote and can't comment? Just saying it is more expensive because it won't sell as many units... With no programs/games using it ....only enthusiasts will buy it for now and will pay 300,once there is more support, it will sell like crazy and eventually be cheaper...the kinect already had support ...

Waaaahahahahhha hah!!!! :D THIS guy is a PC apologist dumb@$$!! Only an utter moron would spend $300 on some fake @$$ $h!t with NO support whatsoever! What are you gonna do, just stare at it?!! Dance around in front of it hoping it does something?!! Just like with Razer copying M$'s 360 controller, not making it wirelesss, and charging more for it! Both of these paper weights are obsolete and DOA (Dead on arrival) out of the box!!!
