Tablets and phones support

When it comes to tablets and phones, Intel has big plans with its Atoms specifically designed for phones and tablet devices. In 2011 the focus is on tablets and Atom Z670 is the solution to fight the ARM army.

It’s not a great chip but let’s call it a start. According to recent info, it looks like Android 3.0 is fully supported with the Oak Trail platform as of Q3 2011. For those who might not know by now, Oak Trail is based on Atom Z670 and SM35 chipset and it has been shipping since March.

We also found out that Oak Trail aims to get full support for Ice Cream Sandwich, most likely to become Android 4.0 as soon as Q1 2012. Many expect to see the next generation Android, Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of the year and a Google phone to ship in first days of 2012 to continue the tradition.

Ice Cream Sandwich is going to become very popular as it will unite Android for phones and android for tablets, something that developers dreamt of for a while.

Intel plans full support for this OS and the next ones, but is has also stated that won’t give up on MeeGo and Windows 7 and 8. It will have support and drives for almost all relevant platforms.
