Skype not headed to Xbox soon

Not something in the near future
Despite Microsoft getting their hands on Skype and even teasing Xbox 360 owners that Skype support was headed to Xbox Live for those that had Kinect, it apparently isn’t on the short term road map. This means despite hoping that it would be slated to arrive with the dashboard update this fall, it isn’t going to happen.

Sources say that Microsoft is still trying to figure out the right way to add Skype support to Xbox Live and integrate it into the dashboard. This was echoed by EMEA Xbox Live product marketing manager Robin Burrowes, who is quoted as saying that it would not be coming in the “near future,” which echoes what we have been hearing as well.

While a number of new things are on tap for the next revision of the Xbox 360 Dashboard, it looks like Twist Control, Bing search, and You Tube support will be the stars of the show with tighter social media integration. Additional TV provider support has also been rumored, but it is unknown what form this might take. Look for Skype support to arrive perhaps in the spring dashboard update at the soonest if owners are lucky.
