Gears 3 reviews hitting

Written by David Stellmack

Scores as high as expected
Talk about hitting it out of the park. Once again and pretty much as expected, the release of Gears of War 3 for the Xbox 360 is going to be big, if the reviews are any indication.

The reviews started coming in last night with scores that place it right at the top, with lots of nine of out ten scores; this is certain to make developer Epic and publisher Microsoft happy. The reviews that we have read indicate that the title is strong as expected with a number of new twists to keep the game fresh.

The multiplayer seems to be better than ever, and the beta didn’t even do it justice. It is obvious that the extra time that Epic had to work on the title before release was very well spent.

I've tried to play the first GoW on PC. "Try to" because I could not force myself to finish it. I really don't get what people like at this game. Maybe the second and third installments are better.

This is one of the very few games for which i wish i had a console. I massively enjoyed the 2nd with co op.

The 1st game was a stellar technological showcase when it was released around 2005. That and the, then new, cover mechanism was very intuitive. You should really try the 2nd with a friend in co-op preferably. The scale of the levels were 'M'assive.

Trust me, you should have persevered with Gears. It is a truly astonishing game in scope and execution. The final level on the moving open-air train is just stunning.

Gears 2 upped the ante in all departments, and I expect Gears 3 to be the best of the lot.

i played gears2 the other day and realized how long its been since i played a console game.. in splitscreen the graphics were nearly unbearable..i remember seeing gears1 when it came out in disbelief of how amazing the graphics looked!! the PC has me spoiled now.. too bad gears 3 wasn't released on the xbox "720" instead, or at least a gears4, i heard gears3 is the last of the series??

ps. i can finally agree with dan about something...GOW is an AMAZING game in every aspect...the little things like having to run into the light in fear of a bat thing clawing your brains out and the ice rain in gears2..good $hit.

I enjoyed Gears Of War but when GOW2 came out I was just disappointed, it seemed like much the same to me. I had the same issue with Halo and Halo2. Maybe since I took a huge break from GOW GOW3 will now seem really great. I love how people mention how intuitive the game was, that's a joke, if you want to talk about a game that's intuitive go back 12 or 13 years to Metal Gear Solid, that was one of the most memorable games for me that offered so many new things.
