Amazon reportedly based its tablet on RIM’s PlayBook

Amazon is expected to launch its Kindle Fire tablet tomorrow and rumor has it that the new device is based on the RIM PlayBook.

Amazon turned to Quanta for production and the company was eager to use its experience with PlayBook and other tablets for Amazon’s new tab. However, people in the know believe Amazon’s tablet is nothing but a stopgap measure, as it won’t be too impressive and it will feature a slower CPU than the PlayBook.

Despite this, publishers seem keen to embrace the new platform. Hearst, Meredith, Conde Nast and others are lining up to jump the tablet, due to its ease of use and Amazon’s rock solid marketing.
