It seems that Dead Island has done something right. Besides much better than expected sales and very good reviews, word now reaches us that just maybe a Dead Island film is in the future.

Lionsgate has optioned the rights to make a movie based on the video game Dead Island. The original Dead Island trailer will serve as the inspiration and starting point for the development of the film. The creation of a script based on Dead Island is in the very early stages.

The development is being spearheaded by Sean Daniel, who has been involved with such films as The Mummy, Tombstone, and Dazed and Confused. His company, the “Sean Daniel Company”, will be responsible for the initial production and will co-produce. Daniel has worked with a number of big name directors, so you never know you might end up directing.

No word yet on a target date for release.
