SE Xperia Play sells for just £175

Deal of the day: Great fun, great value
Sony Ericsson appears to be slashing the price of first PlayStation branded phone once again. The Xperia Play has been on the market since February, but there were apparently few takers, mainly due to the very high price tag.

Xperia Play sold at over €500 at launch, but Sony was quick to drop to prices in April, then again in May and June and finally in August. Long story short, come August it sold for about €270 to €300  in major European markets, about half of the launch price gone in a mere six months.

British retailers seem to be going a step further. MobilePhonesDirect is already selling it for £175, and the price includes 10 quid worth of texts and internet on Vodafone. Chitter Chatter is selling it for just £155, with £5 of T-Mobile credit included in the price. Retailers in mainland Europe aren’t matching the offer just yet, but the Xperia is available in Germany for just €269, and even that sounds like a good deal.

Xperia Play runs Android 2.3, it’s powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processo and boasts a 4-inch 854x480 screen and a 5.1MP camera. Well worth the money if you ask us.
