Simplicity is key, says CEO

Speaking at the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, Twitter’s CEO Dick Costolo said that the social networking site plans to beat its two major competitors – Facebook and Google+.

While we’re quite sure that Facebook is a tough competitor, we don’t see why Google+ is listed other than sucking up to Google. In fact, twitter has around 100 million active users and around 250 million tweets are sent every day, which we’re sure Google+ can’t even dream of beating at the moment.

Costolo said that the main reason for Twitter’s popularity is its simplicity and user friendliness. He noted that the company consciously stayed away from new features and added that Twitter can reach every user on the planet, where further simplifying is key.

Well, whether you like it or not, newspeak is coming and there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Of course, Orwell never suspected it would be the people who willingly accept and ask for it. Irony, eh?
