Changes its name to hide from creditors

Sony Ericsson reported a fourth-quarter net loss of €207 million on Thursday, but it the quarterly report is likely to be the last for the company. Sony announced plans to acquire Ericsson’s 50 percent share in the joint venture last year and the deal should be finalized by February.

Sony Ericsson shipped 9 million phones in Q4, a 20 decrease on a year-on-year basis. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel. The company announced that shipments of its cheap feature phones were significantly lower, while at the same time smartphone sales were going up.

Luckily, Sony Ericsson seems to be doing a rather good job on its latest Android phones and if the recently announced Xperia S flagship is anything to go by, the outfit could make a comeback in the Android market. It is only fitting that Nokia is doing the same with its Windows phones, rekindling the good old Scandinavian mobile phone rivalry.
