Redmond’s Windows Phone OS is starting to get more traction from developers and users alike.
The Windows Phone ecosystem now boasts 80,000 apps, which puts it ahead of Blackberry and Symbian, with 70,000 apps each. However, it is still a long way behind heavyweights iOS and Android, with 550,000 and 450,000 apps respectively. Also, there is now Windows Phone version of Angry Birds Space.
Overall, Windows Phone seems to be doing rather well, as it was off to a relatively slow start. Nokia’s adoption of the OS boosted the figures and rekindled interest in the platform. An average of 340 new apps were launched daily in Mach and Windows Phone is expected to hit 100,000 apps by the end of May.
