US $319.99 for 1TB 10k RPM HDD

Western Digital has unveiled yet another member of its VelociRaptor line of speedy HDDs, the 1TB WD VelociRaptor. The new 1TB model will be joining the previously released 500 and 250GB model and will, just as its predecessors, be a 2.5-inch HDD that comes with a 3.5-inch mounting frame/heatsink.

The new WD VelociRaptor 1TB HDD, or model WD1000DHTZ, features SATA 6Gbps interface, packs 64MB of cache and spins at 10,000 RPM. Thanks to, what WD calls, Advanced Format Technology, we now have the highest capacity 10,000RPM HDD on the market. It also feature rock-solid reliability due to design and manufacture workstation standards, has ultra-cool operation, has rotary acceleration feed forward (RAFF) optimizations for operation and performance when drives are sued in vibration-prone chassis, and NoTouch ramp load technology for less weak on the recording head and better drive protection in transit.

As it was the case with its 250 and 500GB predecessors, the new 1TB WD VelociRaptor HDD is also a 2.5-inch HDD packed in the IcePack 3.5-inch enclosure that doubles as a heatsink. According to WD, the new 1TB WD VelociRaptor should already be available with an MSRP of US $319,99 for the 1TB, while older 500 and 250GB ones should go for US $209.99 and US $159.99.

Anandtech.com managed to get their hands on one of these new VelociRaptor HDDs, and it ends up to be the fastest client HDD on the market. The only problem for such an HDD is that SSDs are faster and becoming cheaper. Of course, 1TB of capacity is certainly VelociRaptor's key advantage.
