NFS: Most Wanted 2?

Written by David Stellmack

Likely the new Criterion title in development

Rumors are coming in from our sources that Electronic Arts is planning to officially announce a new Need for Speed title at E3 in June. The title is believed to be called Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2, which is a follow-up to the Need for Speed Most Wanted title developed last year by Criterion.

Details are sketchy, but it is believed that Criterion is developing this title as well as a new Burnout title that is still far away.  Whispers said to be coming from the Criterion camp suggest that the studio is planning for more than one announcement of an upcoming title yet this year with one of them to be announced at E3, and we now believe that is Most Wanted 2.

The decision to bring out a new Most Wanted 2 title is likely a good one, considering that Need for Speed: The Run didn’t have sales that exactly set the world on fire. The Most Wanted title released previous to The Run (which was developed by Criterion in conjunction with DICE and powered by the Frostbite engine) sold better and was much more popular. It does appear to be something to build upon in the Need for Speed series.

Still, many Criterion fans are seeking word from the developer that a successor to Burnout Paradise is finally in the cards. Burnout fans have been waiting several years now for a new entry in the Burnout franchise. While our sources continue to insist that Criterion is working on something, it is still unclear what that might be or when it will be announced.
