Fileplanet to be no more

Written by David Stellmack

Plug will be pulled IGN after 13 years of service

We have been able to confirm that GameFront parent company IGN has decided to pull the plug on FilePlanet after 13 years of service. The file download website/archive has been the go-to download source for gamers, and apparently IGN believes that its time has passed.

While all of the details as to when it will be shut down are still in a bit of flux, it would be good to start moving your files now if you are storing stuff there. Those who were working on FilePlanet are being reassigned to other projects, so the good news is that there should be no job loss, according to sources we heard from.

We will hate to see FilePlanet go; but with the costs involved today, it is easy to see how difficult it would be for FilePlanet to generate revenue.
