Coming in 13.3 and 11.6-inch variants

Asus has unveiled a rather interesting looking notebook that will feature no less than two IPS displays, one placed on the lid. The wrong side of the lid. To be available in 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch sizes, the dual-screen notebook is something that has not been seen so far and according to Asus, brigns a whole host of new mobile possibilities as it plays the role of both notebook and tablet.

A similar concept, convertabile notebooks, has been around for quite some time, but this time around Asus decided to go for two screens. When opened, Asus Taichi is just like any other notebook with a full-size QWERTY backlit keyboard and a trackpad, but when closed it becomes a multi-touch tablet with stylus support. In case you are worried, the two screens are completely independent and can be used simultaneously and shared between two users making it a rather interesting device.

The design is picked up from Asus' Zenbook project and will be based on Intel's Ivy Bridge Core i7 CPU, up to 4GB of memory, SSD storage, dual-band 802.11n WiFi and dual cameras. Both the 11.6-inch and the 13.3-inch will feature 1920x1080 resolution IPS displays on each side. The rest of the known features include mini VGA, micro DVI and two USB 3.0 ports.

Since we are talking about an early prototype device, there are no details regarding the price or the actual release date. You can check out a neat hands-on over at Engadget.com.
